Mission Statement
CCCIL promotes the independence of people with disabilities by supporting their equal and full participation in community life. CCCIL provides advocacy, education and support to all people with disabilities, their families and the community.
Services
CCCIL is one of a nationwide network of Centers for Independent Living whose philosophy is that we who have disabilities have the right to control our lives and make our own choices.
CCCIL provides the following services: Independent Living Information and Referral; Advocacy; Housing Assistance; Personal Assistance Services; Peer Support; Independent Living Skills and Life Skills Training; Community and Systems Advocacy; and Assistive Technology, to persons with disabilities who live in the counties of Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito.
Additionally, CCCIL runs the New Options Traumatic Brain Injury Project, one of seven demonstration project sites in California.
What To Expect At CCCIL
- You will have the opportunity to develop your own Independent Living Plan with the help of an Independent Living Specialist. An Independent Living Plan is a written statement of what you want in order to live more independently, what you agree to do in order to try to reach your goal, and what your Independent Living Specialist agrees to do to help you.
- You also have the right not to develop a written Independent Living Plan. You may sign a Waiver instead, stating that the Independent Living Plan process has been clearly explained to you, and that you do not wish to develop a written Independent Living Plan at this time.

About CCCIL
CCCIL is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization. We receive major funding from the Calif. Dept. of Rehabilitation, Dept. of Mental Health, and other State, Federal and Local agencies. We also receive grants from foundations and corporations, and generous gifts from individuals.
CCCIL was founded in Santa Cruz County in 1984 as a grassroots organization dedicated to serving the unmet needs of people with disabilities. It was originally known as Community Resources for the Disabled, Inc. (CRD).
In its initial stages, CCCIL's services were provided from its Santa Cruz office and focused on information and referral and community advocacy. In 1986, it began offering the full range of independent living services. In 1989, a branch office opened in Salinas.
CCCIL moved its main office to Salinas in 1994. Today, in addition to the Capitola office, CCCIL has staff in Hollister, Monterey and Soledad.
